For children, there is nothing cooler than trucks and definitely nothing cooler than dinosaurs. So, who wouldn’t want to see what happens when you mix dinosaurs with trucks? You get Dinotrux.
The new series will be produced by DreamWorks Animation for Netflix. DWA has a long-standing agreement with the streaming service, having already created the exclusive Turbo F.A.S.T. series. The How to Train Your Dragon spinoff series, Dreamworks Dragons is also moving to Netflix for its next season in 2015.
According to Variety, Netflix will also stream DWA’s Puss in Boots, King Julien and VeggieTales in the House later this year.
Dinotrux is “a property that creates a new world with stunning visuals and fantastic action combined with great characters and comedy,” DWA TV chief Margie Cohn said in a statement. The theme of the show is big creature making friends with a small one, “a theme that we think will resonate with kids,” Cohn said.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the series is based on the books by Chris Gall. It is set in a world where mechanical dino-trucks like Tyrannosaurus Trux, Scraptors and Tow-a-constrictors live.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Netflix signed a deal with Scholastic to create a Magic School Bus reboot.
