The Milwaukee Bucks and the Brooklyn Nets have agreed on a trade that will send Nets head coach Jason Kidd to the Bucks for a second round pick in 2015 and 2019.
ESPN’s Chris Broussard was the first to report the news.
The Nets wanted a 2015 first round draft pick for Kidd, but the Bucks would only give up a second round pick for the coach, according to ESPN.
Kidd wanted a larger role in the Nets franchise, putting him above general manager Billy King. It is also reported that he was unhappy that Steve Kerr and Derek Fisher got massive contracts as first year coaches compared to his contract, USA Today reports.
The two leading candidates for head coach for the Nets are Lionel Hollins and Ettore Messina. Hollins is a former Memphis Grizzlies head coach, who led them to the Western Conference Finals in 2013, according to USA Today.
Nets owner Mikhail Prokorov once financially supported CSKA Moscow when Messina coached the team, according to the Nets.
ESPN reports that Kidd will become just the fourth NBA head coach to change teams following his first season coaching. The last time this happened was after the 1979-1980 season when Stan Albeck and Jack McKinney changed teams.
Kidd will be inheriting a team that went 15-67 last year, but drafted Jabari Parker with the second overall pick in the NBA Draft.
