In the new novel, The News Sorority: Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Christiane Amanpour — and the (Ongoing, Imperfect, Complicated) Triumph of Women in TV” that was written by Sheila Weller, is going deeper into Katie Couric's background and the intense press attention that Couric took after she decided to leave CBS. This new novel explains that at this time Couric was comparing herself to Hillary Clinton.
New York Daily News reported that according to Sheila Weller, that when Couric left NBC's Today show back in 2006, it was a very traumatic time for her and she was full of doubt and self-pity.
An excerpt of the novel has been released and explains that this was a difficult time for Couric. “In private, Katie — who had recently turned 50 — was now beginning to actively and repeatedly compare herself to the embattled but energized Hillary Clinton,” Weller wrote. "Katie deeply related to Hillary; she felt she was being pummeled as the first female anchor just like Clinton was being pummeled as the first major female presidential candidate.”
The book openly discusses Couric's personality and that when she arrived at work she had a celebrity like attitude. “Katie can put on a charm offensive if she wants to,” the book says. “But really, she doesn’t give a s--- about you only as much as it affected her.”
Couric recently wrapped her talk show Katie, The Huffington Post added. The last few episodes of this season are set to air but in the summer only repeats will be shown.
