When your show becomes popular, more opportunities for casting start opening up. That’s what has happened for Jenji Kohan’s Orange is the New Black. The series will welcome Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen for season three.
Steenburgen confirmed the news herself on Twitter, writing, “Very excited to go to my first wardrobe fitting of OITNB! Will I be in orange or black?:).” Clearly, she’s very excited to join the acclaimed show.
Orange is the New Black’s second season debuted in full on Netflix over the weekend and was already picked up for a third season in May.
It’s not clear what role Steenburgen will have. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the role is being kept quiet.
Steenburgen won her Oscar back in 1981 for Melvin and Howard and is currently splitting time between the small and big screens. On television, she’s taken recurring roles on 30 Rock, Justified and Wilfred. She was recently seen on the big screen in Last Vegas.
Orange is the New Black’s lead cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jason Biggs, Danielle Brooks and Taryn Manning.
