Baltimore Orioles infielder Manny Machado has been suspended five games for his bat-tossing incident on Sunday.

According to ESPN, the league announced Tuesday that in addition to the suspension, the third baseman has also been fined an undisclosed amount.

The discipline stems from Machado’s actions during a game against the Oakland A’s, where after Fernando Abad pitched him a fastball inside, he threw his bat down the third base line. The benches cleared and both he and Abad were ejected from the game.

Abad was fined an undisclosed amount by the league as well for intentionally throwing at the 21-year-old.

Machado later apologized for his actions.

The former All-Star has been struggling this year only batting .229, with just 4 home runs and 11 RBIs, Baseball-Reference.com noted.

The benches-clearing incident was the second that Machado was involved in this weekend. In fact, Orioles’ general manager Dan Duquette was reportedly so disgusted that he considered demoting him to the minors, which could be inevitable if he keeps up his antics.
