On Friday evening, Philadelphia Phillie Jimmy Rollins tied the great Mike Schmidt for the most hits in franchise history.
According to Philly.com, Rollins’ milestone hit came during his last at bat in a game against the Chicago Cubs, in which he was 0-for-3. His final time at the plate he slapped a double off his bat to compile his 2,234th hit.
After doing so, the shortstop received a standing ovation from the fans at Citizens Bank Park.
Schmidt was in attendance at the ballpark and was seen smiling on camera when Rollins tied his record, a record that will almost certainly be broken in the coming days. The Hall of Fame third baseman has said previoulsy that he wants J-Roll to break the record.
Even though Rollins started a rally for the Phils in the ninth inning, the team still lost 2-1 to the Cubs.
The 35-year-old has spent his entire 15-year career with the Phillies and has always been open about wanting to own the record for the team he won a World Series Championship with in 2008.
Jimmy Rollins doubles in 9th for 2,234th hit of career. That ties Mike Schmidt for most all-time in Phillies history.
