Outfielder Grady Sizemore has a new home. One week after being released by the Boston Red Sox, he signed a minor league contract with Philadelphia Phillies.
He will report to the Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate called the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Thursday, reports Philly.com.
In 52 games this season with the Red Sox, Sizemore record a .216 batting average with 10 doubles, two home runs, 15 RBI and five stolen bases.
Sizemore is in his ninth season in the Major Leagues. He was with the Cleveland Indians from 2004 to 2011.
He had his best years from 2006-2008. During this stretch, he was selected to the All-Star Game every year, and took home back-to-back Gold Glove Awards in 2007 and 2008. He batted a career-best .290 in 2006 with 53 doubles and 134 runs scored. Two years later, he had his best power numbers of his career, smacking 33 home runs and driving in 90 RBI.
The 31-year-old was selected right out of high school in the 2000 amateur draft by the Montreal Expos in the third round, according to baseball-reference.com.
The Phillies are 34-41 this season and sit in last place in the National League East Division. The Phillies are six games out in the division but only trail the New York Mets by a half game for fourth. The Phillies are in the midst of a four-game series with the Miami Marlins.
