Platinum Games, the developers behind critically acclaimed games like Bayonetta, Vanquish, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, has announced that they are developing a third-person combat game based on The Legend of Korra, the popular Nickelodeon show.
According to IGN, the game is being published by Activision and have a downloadable release this fall on PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4. And, as Polygon notes, a portable, turn-based streategy version of the game will be developed by Webfoot Technologies, and will be released on the Nintendo 3DS some time this year. Webfoot’s game will "focus on tactically maneuvering Korra and her allies on the battlefield," as opposed to Platinum's action-heavy goal.
IGN notes that series writer Tim Hedrick will be writing the story, which will take place between season two and season three.
Both games will feature the avatar Korra utilizing all four elements to fight against enemies from the show, including Mecha Tanks and Chi Blockers.
The graphical and technical quality of Platinum’s game is currently unknown. The studio has a pedigree of games with stellar technical performance (60 frames per second, 1080p resolution), and it is possible that Korra’s gaming premier will feature similar quality, but such details have not been confirmed.
The show, featuring the voice talents of Janet Varney, will premiere on Nickelodeon June 27th.
