This is another book by Rosemary Gladstar in the “Books for Self-Reliance” series. Rosemary is also the author of “Rosemary Gladstar’s Medicinal Herbs: A Beginner’s Guide.” In this book, Gladstar details her perspective on ageing, an herbal home medicine chest, how to create long lasting good health and give us recipes for longevity and well being.

Sadly, today growing and using herbs for anything other than cooking, is a lost art. I think it’s wonderful that Rosemary has created this series of “books for self-reliance.” We have become a society of people who know how to do basically nothing for ourselves. Everything we need, we think we can buy or rent. If we grow and use our own herbs we know that the contents are pure and no chemicals have been added.

Rosemary has many little interesting tidbits in this book as well; it’s not just a list of herbs and how to use them. She has insights shared from experience and advice on what to use out on the market as well has brief histories of different herbs. You will also find some recipes in this book as well as brain tonic, teas and tinctures. There are also a few helpful illustrations of the herbs to aid in identification. This book is a welcome addition to anyone’s home library who truly cares about their health and wellbeing. Have a cup of herb tea and settle in for a good read.
