Arizona Diamondbacks rookie starter Chase Anderson has pitched in four games in the Major Leagues. He is 4-0 after leading the D-Backs to a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Anderson pitched six innings, giving up one run on four hits and striking out three. His ERA dropped to 3.32.
The Diamondbacks’ offensive gave him all the run support he needed with a three-run fourth inning.
They started the inning off with back-to-back home runs. First baseman Nick Evans smacked one 419 feet to right, and shortstop Chris Owings followed with a 395-foot blast to left. Up next was center fielder Ender Inciarte, who singled to center. A sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch moved him over to third. He scored on a ground out by right fielder Gerardo Parra.
The Rockies got on the board in the fifth inning on a solo home run by second baseman DJ LeMahieu. Arizona got that run back in the eighth on an RBI double by Owings.
Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki started the ninth inning off with his 15th homer run of the year. Left fielder Corey Dickerson followed with a single, but was left stranded as the next three Rockie hitters went down in order, reports ESPN.
“There’s no secret words or magic potion or anything,” Colorado manager Walt Weiss said in his postgame press conference on MLB.com. “You just got to fight your way through it. Certainly in a bit of a funk here offensively, but you’ve got to fight through it. There’s nothing else to do, and they do. They work; they prepare. But we got to get rolling again.”
The Rockies, who are 16-8 at home, will look to get back to .500 overall on Wednesday night in game two of this three-game tilt.
