Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was selected through fan voting to be the cover athlete for Madden NFL 15.
The Super Bowl-winning veteran managed to overcome other such popular players as Carolina Panthers' Cam Newton, Chicago Bears' Alshon Jeffery and San Francisco 49ers' Colin Kaepernick in the fan vote, according to EA Sports. The online competition managed to get 10 million votes.
"Richard Sherman is a fantastic cover athlete selection by the fans," Anthony Stevenson, vp of global marketing, said. "Defense is a big focus for Madden NFL 15, and Sherman is one of the brightest defensive stars in the NFL. He shares the same energy and passion for the game as our 'legion' of Madden fans."
Sherman, who is only the second Seattle player to make the cover of the popular video game series, said that it is "something you've always dreamed about as a little kid," reports NFL.com. It's "Something you never expect to happen."
Shaun Alexander was the last Seahawks player, snagging the honors for Madden NFL '07.
Madden NFL 15 hits stores Aug. 26 on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360.
