Last spring, HBO released a mockumentary about Silicon Valley residents that was found footing among the very people it set out to mock.
At first, the techies whose lives Silicon Valley is based on weren’t so sure the show would accurately depict them or be worth watching.
“Most starups are a soap opera, but not that kind of startup,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk said, according to Komo News.
Some of the show’s namesake residents even made cameos on the show, including Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt.
“I live it every week. We cannot take ourselves too seriously,” former America Online CEO and Silicon Valley venture capitalist Barry Schuler said, reports Fox News. “We don’t fit into normal social circles.”
The show, which averages about 1.7 million viewers a week, according to Nielson ratings, has already been renewed for a second season. Many of the show’s viewers reside in Silicon Valley.
The first season finale airs June 1 at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.
