According to a recently updated study from 2011, viewers gain more educationally when watching Stephen Colbert’s Comedy Central show The Colbert Report than they do watching nightly news programs on major networks like CNN, Fox News and MSNBC.
Bruce W. Hardy, the lead author of the study, says the study shows those watching Colbert’s show are generally more informed about campaign finance and topics of that nature.
“It's the first study actually showing that Colbert is doing a better job than other news sources at teaching people about campaign financice,” said Hardy, UPI reports.
Another study done by by Fairleigh DickinsonUniversity in 2012, prompted a response from Fox News.
A spokesperson hit back at the researchers, telling THR the students at Farleigh Dickinson University are “ill-informed.”
“Considering FDU’s undergraduate school is ranked as one of the worst in the country, we suggest the school invest in improving its weak academic program instead of spending money on frivolous polling – their student body does not deserve to be so ill-informed,” said the spokesperson.
