The Powerpuff Girls has been set to be rebooted in 2016.
E! Online reports that Cartoon Network announced the return of Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles. The series ended ten years ago. A statement from Cartoon Network’s chief content officer, Rob Sorcher, said, “We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice, and Chemical X.”
The series centered on three tiny superheroes who were created when Professor Utonium accidentally combined Chemical X with sugar and spice when he was attempting to make three little girls who were perfect.
The network aired a special on the tenth anniversary of the show in 2009 and a CGI television movie aired earlier this year.
According to Variety, the series won two Emmys and there was a film released in 2003.
The vice president of consumer products for Cartoon Network Enterprises in North America, Pete Yoder, stated, “As the original ambassador of ‘girl power,’ The Powerpuff Girls brand continues to resonate with people of all ages and there is tremendous excitement around introducing Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup to a new generation.”
The announcement comes after it was announced that The Magic Schoolbus was set for a reboot. Plus, Disney is set to release the sequel series to The Lion King film called The Lion Guard.
