In his first tournament action since March, Tiger Woods shot a 3-over 74 at the Quickens Loan National at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.
According to ESPN, Woods bogeyed seven of the first 12 holes of the round, but birdied three of his last six to end at 3-over.
Woods is tied for 99, with the leader Greg Chalmers at five-under, according to the PGA Tour.
Woods told reporters that he played better than his score showed.
“The score is not really indicative of how I played,” he said. “I had four up-and-downs right there on 15 through 18. I had an easy pick on two, don’t get that up-and-down and a wedge in my hand on three and I jerk it in the bunker.”
Woods also said his there was no pain in his back, according to the New York Daily News.
“No twinges, no nothing. It felt fantastic,” he said. That’s one of the reasons why I let go on those tee shots. I hit it pretty hard out there.”
Woods continues playing tomorrow with Jason Day and Jordan Spieth. The group tees off at 1:12 p.m.
