The Detroit Tigers (43-32) defeated the Texas Rangers (35-43) 6-0 behind the arm of Rick Porcello (10-4) who threw his first career shutout. The two teams continue to move in different directions. The Rangers have lost eight straight, while the Tigers have won seven in a row.

Porcello thew a three-hit shutout and struck out six on his way to double digit wins for the season. Porcello allowed just three singles and was aided by his defense who converted three 4-6-3 double plays, according to the Kansas City Star
Detroit’s bats continued to punish Ranger pitchers, putting up four runs on rookie Nick Martinez (1-5). Martinez lasted just 2.1 innings, and was replaced by Scott Baker who completed the remainder of the game.
The Ranger offense was absent Thursday night. First baseman Miguel Cabrera had four hits, one more than the entire Rangers team. Outfielder Austin Jackson went 1-for-5 with a two-run single for the AL Central leaders.
