TNT's latest drama series The Last Ship started off strong in the ratings for the network, while Falling Skies struggled in its return.

The Rhona Mitra and Eric Dane starring drama debuted to 5.3 million viewers with the initial showing, which jumps to 7.4 million, when all Sunday night showings are tabulated, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Last Ship also managed to snag 2.3 million viewers in the advertiser-important 18-49 demographic. The initial telecast pulled in a 1.2, which was still quite competitive on the night, compared to other fare on the four major networks.

The debut is also stronger than TNT's other new drama Murder in the First, reports Variety, the police drama averaged 3.8 million viewers and a .6 rating in the 18-49 demo.

Falling Skies returned on Sunday, but struggled when compared to last year's premiere. The science fiction series averaged 3.7 million viewers and a 1.0 rating in the demo. The previous season started off with 4.21 million viewers and a 1.5 demo rating.
