Since Edgar Wright left the director's chair for the upcoming Marvel film Ant-Man, the studio has been scrambling to put someone else into the chair. Although there were three directors on the studio's shortlist, those directors have been moving away more and more from the project.
But it seems that the studio has found two more directors to add to the project.
According to Deadline, directors Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors) and Michael Dowse (Goon) are "also making the rounds."
This news comes after it was announced that both Adam McKay (the Anchorman films) and Rawson Thurber (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, We're the Millers) would not be taking the job, despite the fact that they were at least considered. Of the original three directors on Marvel's original shortlist, only Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) has not turned down the job.
Looking at the two new names, Stoller is coming off of last month's Neighbors, but is supposed to be directing a buddy cop movie with Seth Rogen and Kevin Hart in the near future. He is also attached to a couple other projects as a producer and/or a writer.
Dowse, meanwhile, has a little more availability in his schedule. His sophomore directorial effort What If..., starring Daniel Radcliffe, is set to be released in August. While he is supposed to be making a sequel to Goon in the near future, it would seem that he doesn't have any big plans on the horizon, which would lead him to being open to direct this, if he was offered the job and wanted it of course.
Whether they do or not, though, will have to be seen.
