It all comes down to Thursday. The United States can decide it’s own World Cup fate in it’s final group stage match against powerhouse Germany. Per ESPN.com all the Americans have to do is beat or tie the Germans in order to advance out of the “Group of Death”, a feat that few gave the U.S. a chance to fulfill.
But, as anyone will assure you, taking down Germany will be no easy task. Earlier in the tournament, they tied thumped Portagul 4-0, and tied Ghana 2-2, a match in which they were highly favored to take easily, as Ghana is only ranked 37th in the world, according to Fifa.com.
Germany boasts one of the best players on the face of the Earth in Bastien Schweinsteiger, who made a name for himself in the last world cup, according to The Wire. He was chosen as one of the top ten players in 2010, and was widely considered one of the biggest reasons Germany advanced all the way to the semi-finals that year.
There are no two ways around it. Thursday’s match is the biggest game U.S. has had in some time, and it certainly will take near-flawless play from all facets of the United States. It will be 90 minutes (and change) of intensity, anxiety, and baited breath. And we all can’t wait.
