Authorities said that a Long Island man believed to be one the men suspected of punching V. Stiviano, has been charged with a hate crime and assault.
CNN reported that police spokesman Brian Sessa said the suspect identified as Dominick Diorio, faces charges of assault as a hate crime, assault, harassment and aggravated harassment.
Stiviano claimed that she was verbally and physically assaulted by two men on Sunday outside her hotel in New York City.
Stiviano’s lawyer, Mac Nehoray said that the males followed his client from a restaurant in the city’s meat-packing district to the Gansevoort hotel, where the alleged assault occurred. The men allegedly yelled racial slurs at her and then threw punches.
People walking by reportedly broke up the fight.
The 40-year-old Diorio turned himself in on Tuesday.
Stiviano is known as the woman on the recording with Donald Sterling when he made racist remarks. Due to his offensive comments he received a $2.5 million fine and a lifetime ban from the NBA.
