Patrick Ewing is an NBA Hall of Fame center that seems to be glossed over and forgotten about when it comes to hiring for NBA coaches. His longtime team the New York Knicks have a spot opened and his name does not seem to be one in the running as of right now. Reports say Derek Fisher is the lead candidate for that job because of his ties with former head coach and now president of the Knicks Phil Jackson.
“I’d like to have a prior relationship with a coach so that we know that we’ve gone through some kind of issues together,” said Jackson, reported byAll Media NY
The 17-year pro has been an assistant coach in the NBA for a decade. When asked about being a head coach someday, Ewing said that he does not think about that anymore. He is just prepared just incase his number is called for whatever future team wants him.
“It's something that I don't even try to lose sleep over anymore. All I can do is continue to learn my craft, continue to do the best job that I can do and learn from all the people that I've worked with and worked for and make sure that when I get an opportunity, I'm prepared,” said Ewing, reported by CBS Sports.
It is hard to believe that the former New York Knicks headlining act at Madison Square Garden is struggling to land a head-coaching job. Not even his former team he put on his back for years wants him. It is safe to say that the once respected Georgetown superstar is not being shown any dignity as of late.
