Will Ferrell, Melissa McCarthy, Pharrell Williams, Seth MacFarlane and James L. Brooks will have more than one thing in common than being famous soon. They will be among 30 celebrities receiving stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year, the Walk of Fame Selection Committee said Thursday.
Ferrell is among the group of stars getting their own star for their contributions to film. According to Variety, the others are actress Jennifer Garner, Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez, Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe and Ferrell’s Anchorman co-star Paul Rudd.
The television honorees include Brooks for his work on The Simpsons, plus Family Guy creator MacFarlane. Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife); Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory); Chris O’Donnell (NCIS: LA); Kelly Ripa; Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation); and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) will also get their stars.
Lukasz ‘Dr Luke’ Gottwald, Kool & The Gang, Pitbull, Al Schmitt, Ennio Morricone and Williams will be the music honorees. Kristin Chenoweth and Dick Gregory were picked for their stage work.
LA radio host Larry Elder is the only pick for the radio category, while Peanuts’ Snoopy is the only fictional character to be added this year.
Reuters notes that Batman creator Bob Kane and writer Raymond Chandler will receive posthumous stars.
There are already over 2,500 plagues on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star costs $30,000 from a sponsor and need to be approved by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Ceremonies are typically scheduled around promotional tours for the stars.
