On Wednesday June 4, 2014, Zach LaVine, 19-year-old former UCLA point guard, became received the honor of the unofficial best vertical leap in his draft class. He was working out with the Los Angeles Lakers when they posted this picture to Twitter:

Much like the attention Andrew Wiggins, former Kansas Jayhawks SG, got for his vertical leap photo of 44 inches, LaVine’s name has blown up for adding on 4.5 inches to his already impressive official 41.5 inch vertical leap at the NBA Combine via Yahoo.

While this changes his view in the eyes of GMs, it doesn’t really offer any insight into his productivity as an NBA point guard. What it does promote is his raw athleticism – something you cannot teach.

To put the quality of LaVine’s 46” vertical into perspective, it measures 2.5” higher than Nate Robinson, 3” higher than Vince Carter and 4” higher than Victor Oladipo from a year ago according to SBNation.
