The Late Show is changing hosts but its location will remain the same. The show will continue to be produced and broadcast from The Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York after Stephen Colbert takes over.
In April we reported that Colbert would be succeeding Letterman next year after Letterman retires after more than 20 years hosting the show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, there had been some brief speculation that the show would be moving to Los Angeles. In a statement, CBS Corp. president and CEO Leslie Moonves said, “David Letterman has graced this hall and city with comedy and entertainment that defined a generation. When Dave decides to pass the baton next year, we look forward to welcoming Stephen Colbert, one of the most innovative and respected forces on TV, to this storied television theater.”
As a result of the decision, CBS, which owns The Ed Sullivan Theatre, stands to receive at least $11 million in tax credits and as much as $5 million in grants to help cover the costs of renovations to the 87-year-old theater.
