The International Olympic Committee has chosen three finalists for the 2022 Winter Olympic games, Almaty, Kazakhstan; Beijing, China; and Olso, Norway.
Both Olso and Beijing have held the Olympics once before, the 1952 Winter Games, and the 2008 Summer Games, respectively, according to SportsNetwork.com.
IOC President Thomas Bach told reporters at a news conference that each city will bring something different in their official Olympic bids, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“The IOC is very happy to see three very different approaches with regard to the organization of the games. This gives the IOC a choice between three diverse bids, with different legacy plans, with different approaches, with different budgets.”
At the start of 2014 there were six remaining cities in consideration to host the games, but three have dropped out over the course of the year, Stockholm, Sweden; Krakow, Poland; and Lviv, Ukraine, according to the AP.
Olso’s bid remains in doubt, as the Norwegian government has not officially backed the bid.
The three cities must submit their official bids to the IOC by January 2015. The host city will be selected by the full IOC membership on July 31, 2015.
