When Seattle Mariners closer Fernando Rodney celebrated closing out the eighth inning with the lead against the Los Angeles Angels, he must have been pretty confident that he would do it again one inning later. That assumption turned out to be wrong as the Angels won 6-5 on a walk-off base hit by Grant Green.
Los Angeles entered the bottom of the ninth trailing by one run. That deficit was erased when Albert Pujols smacked a double that brought in Mike Trout. As a way of rejoicing knotting the ballgame up, Pujols and Trout imitated Rodney and pretended to shoot a make-believe arrow, reports Sports Illustrated.
The Halos then loaded the bases with a base hit and an intentional walk, before David Freese hit into a double play to extend the game. Another intentional walk reloaded the bases for Green, who smacked a single to center field.
"We never put our heads down,” Trout said, according to The LA Times. “We never think we've lost a game in the fifth or sixth inning. We're always fighting until the last out. The biggest thing is everyone knows their role, we have great team chemistry, and we're having fun in here."
The Mariners led for almost the entire game, scoring three runs in first inning but failed to secure the victory.
