After millions of fans submitted their votes to pick the final spots on the All-Star teams, Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale and Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo emerged as the winners.
More than 52 million ballots were cast. Rizzo received 8.8 million votes and Sale 6.7 million, reports The Associated Press.
Rizzo is hitting .280 with 20 home runs and 49 RBI. He is in his fourth year in the Major Leagues and is making his first appearance in the All-Star Game, according to baseball-reference.com .
Sale is making his third straight All-Star appearance. So far this season, he is 8-1 with a 2.08 ERA. He is in his fifth year in the Majors, reports baseball-reference.com .
Rizzo joins teammate Starlin Castro as the only representatives for the Cubs. Sale is one of three members of the White Sox on the All-Star team, joining Alexi Ramirez and rookie phenom Jose Abreu, reports CBS Sports .
Rizzo beat out Miami third baseman Casey McGehee, Colorado first baseman Justin Morneau, Washington third baseman Anthony Rendon and Atlanta outfielder Justin Upton.
In the AL, Sale beat a group of pitchers that included Houston's Dallas Keuchel, Cleveland's Corey Kluber, the Angels' Garrett Richards and Detroit's Rick Porcello.
The All-Star Game is July 15 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
