Atlanta Braves catcher Evan Gettis has been placed on the 15-day DL. After taking an MRI, the results showed that Gettis had a bulging thoracic disk in his back. He has missed four straight games prior to be being placed on the disabled list. This is not good news for a player who has put up impressive home run stats up to this point in the season.

According to ESPN, Gettis has hit 16 homers as the Braves everyday man behind the plate. A long with his home run power, he was had a .290 batting average to go along with 39 RBI’s. For a catcher to have those kind of stats is hard to find in professional baseball.

He could have participated in the Home Run Derby and the All-Star game this season, reported by CBS Sports. Now Gettis will have to rehab and wait to come back to the Braves in a couple of weeks. Atlanta wants the two-year pro to be 100 percent healthy for his return.
