You will laugh so hard your stomach will hurt at Bayside the Musical, located at Theatre 80 St. Marks (80 St. Marks Place New York NY 10003). This hilarious and "unauthorized musical parody of televisions Saved By The Bell" was entertaining from minute one through to the end. This show is for the adults only; there is some strong language and topic content is sexual in nature. It runs 2 hours (you are laughing so hard it feels like 20 minutes) with a short 10 minute intermission at the half way point.
The play is written and directed by Bob and Tobly McSmith. It features the house band "Zach Attack" (appropriately named) and takes you through the high school dilemma of what will happen to "The Max", the only restaurant in Bayside (LOL). The 6 infamous students need to come up with inventive ways to raise $500.00; seems easy but is it? Suggestions by "Tori" included selling Screech's grandmothers spaghetti sauce (remember that episode?), making a music video (I was singing along) and having a school dance. The costumes were dead on! I was laughing myself sick looking at Zach's jeans and sneakers, Lisa's dresses were amazing and I was in tears from laughing at Slater's wrestling onesies. Expertly covered was Jessie's notorious addiction to caffeine pills; I couldn't wait to hear her sing "I'm So Excited" as well as the entertaining love triangle of Screech - Lisa - Violet (they actually referred to her as "Tori Spelling, the actress who played Violet on Saved By The Bell) which was also hilarious. Act or "Season" 2 covered a brief trip to their summer jobs at "Malibu Sands Beach Club" and the important question "would Kelly be able to afford the prom?".
We were lucky enough to be treated to a guest appearance by Leanna Creel (who played Tori Scott) and she had some really funny scenes with actor Seth Blum who played Mr. Belding, Max and believe it or not Tori herself. Leanna stuck around after the show to sign autographs and take pictures.
