The Milwaukee Brewers Jean Segura has left the team and flew to the Dominican Republic after learning about the death of his nine-month-old son.

ESPN noted that Brewers manager Ron Roenicke, announced on Saturday that the shortstop was placed on the bereavement list after learning on Friday evening that his infant passed away.

"Obviously it's tough on him," Roenicke said. "He didn't learn about it until after the game was over and one of the players came over and told him."

The team’s skipper was apparently shaken up himself a bit after the game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He declined to speak to the media and cited a death of one of his player’s family members, but at the time did not say who.

The Brewers organization tweeted a message of condolences to Segura and his family Saturday afternoon.

No further details about the child's death have been released and Segura is obviously going to be given as much time away as he needs.

This season, he has four home runs and 23 RBI’s for the Brew Crew, according to Baseball-Reference.com.
