Broadway actress Elaine Stritch, who might be best known for playing Alec Baldwin's character's overbearing mother in 30 Rock, passed away at the age of 89 on Thursday.

Julie Keyes, Stritch's friend, confirmed the actress had died with The New York Times. She passed away at her Birmingham, Michigan home of natural causes.

Though she appeared in 30 Rock, she was in so much more, including movies, other television shows and on the stage. She was known both in acting and in life to be quite blunt and smoked and drank throughout her life, with a short break from those vices during her 60s.

She told the NY Times back in 1968, "I drink and I love to drink, and it's part of my life."

According to TheWrap, Stritch began her time on the stage in the 1940s in the Stephen Sondheim musical Company. She would be nominated for three Tonys and in 1995 was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.

Stritch would also be nominated for five Emmys during her time on 30 Rock, managing to snag one before the show ended. Her show Elaine Stritch at Liberty also snagged her an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.

The actress also made appearances in some films, including Wood Allen's September and Small Time Crooks.
