In somewhat unsurprising news, Brooks Wheelan revealed on Monday that he is no longer a castmember of NBC's late-night comedy show Saturday night Live.

Wheelan took to Twitter to let his fans know he was let go from the sketch program, writing, "Had a blast and loved every second of it. I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke... FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!"

The news shouldn't come as a shock for anyone who watched SNL as the freshman castmember struggled for air time. Part of the problem was that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Wheelan lacked sketch comedy experience, being mostly known for his stand-up comedy.

The decision over whether the other new featured players added for the 39th season get to stay is not expected until August.

It's possible Noel Wells could follow Wheelan out the door as she too almost never made it onto the stage and veteran Nasim Pedrad could also soon be gone to focus on Mulaney, set to debut in the fall on Fox.
