Browns owner Jimmy Haslam’s truck stop company, Pilot Flying J, has been under federal investigation for more than a year for alleged rebate fraud committed by some of its employees.
Monday it was announced that they reached an agreement with the federal government to avoid being prosecuted for fraud, provided the company meets the terms of the arrangement.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal Pilot Flying J must pay a $92 million penalty and fully cooperate with the government’s investigation of fraudulent conduct within their diesel fuel sales discount programs.
In a release from Pilot Flying J, Haslam was quoted as saying, “We, as a company, look forward to putting this whole unfortunate episode behind us, continuing our efforts to rectify the damage done, regaining our customers’ trust, and getting on with our business. We’ve been committed from the beginning of this to doing the right thing, and that remains our commitment.”
10 company employees have already entered guilty pleas to mail and wire fraud charges according to CNN.
