Days after Sam Raimi made the announcement that he will be writing The Evil Dead television series with his brother Ivan, legendary series alum Bruce Campbell confirmed on Twitter that he will be starring, or at least playing some role, in the upcoming series.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Bruce Campbell will also be helping the Raimi brothers write the series as well. As reported by both Den of Geek and us, Raimi told Hall H of San Diego Comic Con that "I always loved working on that series with Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert…and my brother and I are writing the Evil Dead TV show right now … with Bruce Campbell."

Campbell has been with the series since the very beginning, even making an appearance in the most recent remake film in post credits scene in which he uttered his most famous line from Evil Dead II (“Groovy.”) According to Bloody Disgusting, this might have been a hint at Campbell’s involvement in future films in the series. However, as noted by Rolling Stone, there are no films planned as of yet.

Campbell confirmed his role (or, at least, involvement) in the television series on Twitter in response to a fan.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the 2013 remake film – which made $100 million in the worldwide box office – is actually to be considered a sequel to the original films and thus ties into the film’s continuity. Campbell’s role as "Ashley J. Williams" is thus not only possible and but even likely, either on the small or large screens.

As we recently noted, the television show might be taking the place for Army of Darkness 2, a film that Raimi has mentioned he has a strong desire to make, but has never been able to get any headway on. How Raimi will find time for this project, as well as producing The Last of Us film adaptation and a remake of Poltergeist, the latter of which is set to release in February 2015.
