Former Full House actress Candace Cameron Bure found herself at the center of controversy this week after she announced on Facebook that she is going to do a five-day cleanse. That got hundreds of negative comments and forced her to get on the defensive.

The situation started on Monday when Bure, 38, posted a picture of a Paleta Purify Plus shake. “After a very indulgent week in Napa, I'm excited to kick off my 5 day cleanse with @eatpaleta today!! Shakes for breakfast & lunch, sensible snacks & a light veggie dinner,” she captioned the photo.

This may have seemed like an innocent plug for a product she used, some of her Facebook fans didn’t think so. As Us Weekly points out, while some did praise her for her dedication, others slammed her as a “sellout.” Others called her out for not eating “real food.”

Just hours after the post started garnering comments, Bure returned to Facebook to defend her use of Paleta.

“After reading your comments, let me expand! I'm excited to start my 5 day cleanse not to lose weight but to get my body back on track, ridding all the toxins and unhealthy stuff I've put in it the last few months,” she wrote.

She noted that after doing a season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, “my body has struggled to find its balance after having danced up to 8 hours a day and eating so clean.”

Bure, a mother of three, said that the switch to a less healthy diet has caused her body “confusion,” leading to “some minor health issues.” She declined to go into further detail of her private health concerns, but included a link to Paleta to giver her fans more information on the product.

“And if you still comment about how unhealthy I am for doing a cleanse or that I don't need to lose weight, I'll know that you never read any of this and I won't bother answering any comments below of that nature,” she concluded.

Bure was recently part of a mini Full House reunion for David Coulier’s wedding.
