Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy has been found guilty of assaulting a female and communicating threats towards her.
According to the AP, Hardy was sentenced to 18 months’ probation and a suspended 60-day sentence, he will not spend any time in jail.
Hardy’s attorney Chris Fialko said they would appeal the verdict.
According to the Charlotte Observer, North Carolina state law automatically gives people convicted of misdemeanors in bench trials the right to trial by jury in a Superior Court.
On May 13, he was involved in a domestic dispute in downtown Charlotte with the female. She accused him of assaulting her earlier that night and said that Hardy threatened to kill her.
Hardy told the judge that he was the one that was being abused.
Hardy signed a one-year, $13.1 million contract after the Panthers used a franchise tag on him.
He made the Pro-Bowl last year after he finished the season with 15 sacks. The Panthers led the league in sacks last year with 50.
