CBS revealed on Monday that just three weeks since the event series Extant debuted, the network has decided to push it back an hour later.
The Halle Berry-starring vehicle will now air at 10 p.m. on Wednesday nights instead of at 9 p.m. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the time shift will begin with the upcoming fourth episode.
With Big Brother providing a weak lead-in, despite being a top performer on Wednesday nights, CBS is hoping moving Extant back an hour might help the struggling, expensive program. The series will now have a lead-in from an encore episode of Criminal Minds for the rest of its run.
A similar move helped the network's other original summer series Under the Dome. Extant hasn't been too strong in live+same day ratings, with the third episode drawing only 1.1 rating in the advertiser-important 18-49 demographic.
CBS has noted that Extant numbers improve when Live 7-day ratings are included. The series premiere jumped 71 percent from a 1.6 rating to 2.4 rating, and has been averaging about a 2.2 demo rating through the three episodes.
