The Yankees will be without their star pitcher CC Sabathia for the rest of the season after the pitcher decided to undergo arthroscopic surgery.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman hoped that CC will be back and healthy for the Yankees next season in a statement released by the team.
“He’ll get it cleaned up and obviously it will end his season,” he said. “Hopefully, next year will be a different story.”
It was thought that Sabathia would have to undergo micro fracture surgery, which could have possibly ended his career, according to ESPN.
However, there is still a possibility if the planned surgery fails to heal Sabathia, that he will have to undergo the micro fracture surgery.
CC last pitched on May 10. He was 3-4 with a 5.28 ERA this season.
This is just the latest blow to the Yankees starting day pitching staff. Along with Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka, Ivan Nova and Michael Pineda are all on the disabled list.
Sabathia has two more years left on his contract he signed following the 2011 season. He is still scheduled to earn a $48 million combined during the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
