Cinemax is so confident on the quality of upcoming drama series The Knick from Steven Soderbergh, that they have already renewed it for a second season.

The period medical drama doesn't even premiere until Aug. 8, but the network has already put in a second season renewal that will be 10 episodes, much like the first, Deadline reports.

Soderbergh directed all of the episodes for the first season and announced at a press tour that he plans to do the same for the second season. "I'm going to do all 10." He is also an executive producer of the series.

"There's a positive aspect to having a visual language that is very, very specific and very, very unified throughout the show," the filmmaker said of his decision. "In this case, it's not only creatively satisfying but it's practically speaking, a better way to work."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Knick, which stars Clive Owen, is set in 1900 New York at Knickerbocker Hospital. Owen plays Chief Surgeon Dr. John W. Thackery.

The series was created Jack Amiel, Gregory Jacobs and Michael Begler, who also serve as executive producers alongside Soderbergh and Owen.

Joining the Children of Men actor in the series are Andrew Holland, Eric Johnson, Cara Seymour, Maya Kazan and others.
