Already facing a possible year-long ban from the NFL, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon added to his troubles early Saturday morning when he was pulled over by police in North Carolina for driving while impaired.
He was clocked going 50 mph in a 35 mph zone around 3 a.m. in Raleigh when police pulled him over, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said, ESPN reports.
Police refused to confirm or deny if Gordon was drinking or under the impairment of drugs, but no charges relating to the latter have been filed. One must be considered "appreciably impaired" to be slapped with a DWI charge, Raleigh police captain Tommy Klein said.
According to WNCN, Gordon reportedly had a 0.09 blood alcohol level, exceeding the state's legal limit of 0.08. The troubled wide receiver told police he had three mixed alcoholic beverages that night.
Former teammate D'Qwell Jackson took to Twitter after news of the arrest surfaced to plead to those close to Gordon to "please help this kid, it's not about football anymore it's about picking up the pieces of his life."
The arrest comes just as the NFL reportedly has scheduled his hearing for violating the substance-abuse policy, according to ProFootballTalk. He faces a year-long ban after having been suspended last season for a similar violation.
