The Colorado Avalanche and center Ryan O’Reilly have avoided going to arbitration by agreeing to a two-year contract.
TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger reports that O’Reilly will be paid $5.8 million this year and $6.2 million next year.

The Avalanche and O’Reilly were supposed to go to arbitration today.
In a statement made by the Avalanche, Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic said “We are pleased to have Ryan under contract. We are looking at the upcoming training camp and season with a lot of excitement.
Last season, O’Reilly set career highs in goals with 28 and points with 64. He led the team in goals and was third in total points.
He also won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, which is given out to the player who shows sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.
He became only the second NHL player to ever receive two or less penalty minutes while playing in 80 or more games during a season.
O’Reilly was a second round pick by the Avalanche in the 2009 NHL Draft. He has 191 points in 345 career games with the team, according to NHL.com.
