The Colorado Rockies rough season got worse on Monday, as they had to place their All-star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on the 15-day disabled list due to an upper thigh strain. Tulowitzki strained his left leg while running to first against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night.

"I think this is for the best," Tulowitzki said. "I've already missed some time, and with where we are right now, we think this is the best move so I can get healthy."

Tulowitzki leads the major league in batting average (.340), on-base percentage (.432) and slugging percentage (.603) according to CBS sports.

He also has 21 home runs and 52 RBIs this season, and his 5.7 wins above replacement rate has kept the Rockies from avoid the cellar of the MLB. Tulowitzki’s MVP chances will certainly take a hit from this injury.

This will be Tulowitzki’s first stint on the disabled list this year according to USA today.

Tulowitzki will be eligible to return on August 4.
