Dakota Fanning has been acting since the age of three, though she is showing her more mature side in the new coming of age flick Very Good Girls alongside Elizabeth Olsen.
Fanning—now 20-years-old—has opened up about what it was like working with real-life bud Elizabeth Olsen, filming sex scenes and seeing herself on the silver screen. Very Good Girls is about two best friends hoping to lose their virginities during the summer before going to two different colleges in the fall. As predicted, drama ensues when the two girls embark on their shared quest to enter adulthood after graduating high school.
When asked about what it was like to work with Elizabeth Olsen, Fanning was nothing but complementary. “It was great. I knew Lizzie before making the movie, so we had an existing relationship and friendship,” she told Huffington Post. “So it was nice to make a movie that’s a lot about friendship with somebody that you actually know and like.”
Fanning maintains that she chose to do the film because the plot resembles life changes she has already experienced. “When I first read the script, the thing that I connected with the most was that I was experiencing the same time in my life as the character,” she said. “I had already been kind of full circle with moving away and going to school and leaving my childhood behind, so it was exciting to make a movie about that because it really is such a rare thing to see in movies.”
When asked about filming the key sex scene in the film, Fanning remained professional and explained that it’s simply just part of the business! “I wasn’t very uncomfortable with it. It’s just something you kind of have to do,” she said. “It’s really not that big of a deal, it’s just a technical thing. Everybody is really respectful and I wasn’t uncomfortable. You just kind of have to just go for that and get it done, like anything else.”
Fanning has also recently opened up about growing up in the spotlight. Very Good Girls is currently in theaters.
