Jimmy Fallon was the host of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon from March 2, 2009 till February 7, 2014. The show also featured “The Roots” as the house band and Steve Higgins as the show’s announcer. While the show with these people ended on February 7th, it was not goodbye. Jimmy Fallon is now the host of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon which had been Jay Leno’s job for more than twenty years. Fallon also brought his band and host with him.

On Thursday, July 10, 2014 The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was nominated for six Emmy’s including a nomination for best variety series. While the crew was celebrating their success, they still had a show to put on for that night, a night when Dana Carvey and Hailee Steinfeld would be guest celebrities on the show.

For anyone who has never been to the Tonight Show live, it can be a grueling process. While the show airs weeknight at 11:35 P.M., it is taped during the day at roughly 5:00 P.M. For anyone lucky enough to score free tickets through Facebook, they were told to arrive three hours early so the tickets could be handed out. After a lot of standing around it is finally time for the viewers to be seated.

Finally the time comes and everyone is seated in the studio which stays at roughly 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Cell phones must be turned off and anyone attempting to take their phones out will surely be taken away by security. Moving on the show starts off with a half dozen TV screens playing some of Jimmy Fallon’s best skits to get the crowd excited. Then a warm up comedian, Seth Herzog, comes out to talk with the crowd and more or less kill some time via OKmagazine.

As soon as you know it “The Roots” is out and playing some funky tunes while the audience begins to clap in rhythm, swaying to the beat. Next to come out is Steve Higgins who starts getting the crowd to laugh and eventually begins the countdown for the start of the show. All of a sudden the theme song starts to play, the TV screens are playing the opening credits and soon enough Jimmy Fallon runs through the blue curtain into the studio.

Rocking a silver suit, he couldn’t say enough about the cast and crew for helping their show receive six Emmy nominations. To help celebrate this great feat was a random dancing panda that ran across the studio and continued to dance in a hallway of the studio. He then began with a few jokes here and there as Jimmy stood directly in the center of the studio. Eventually going to his desk, he began the hashtag segment. In this particular case the hashtag was #UnhappyCamper. He read several hilarious tweets, the crowd was laughing uncontrollably and eventually it was time to move on.

It was time for Dana Carvey.

This guy comes out and acts exactly as one would imagine. Simply put Carvey is nuts. Don’t get me wrong, the guy is hilarious, but shame is no longer something he worries about. He and Fallon would eventually move on to play a game of impressions. Both of them would try doing Al Pacino impressions and eventually moved on to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Barak Obama. When they finished their impressions Carvey wanted to take a crack at singing a song he wrote called “Choppin Broccoli”. It was interesting. He sat at a piano, playing quite impressively, and began to sing his very strange song. All of a sudden the curtains drew and a fully equipped orchestra was playing background music for him. It was epic.

Hailee Steinfeld came out next but was only out for a matter of minutes. She was there to promote her newest film Begin Again which is currently in theaters. The two just talked for a little while, a clip of her new film played and she was sent off stage.

Nearing the end of the show the band “Magic” came out as the closing act. The played their hit song “Rude” from their debut album “Don’t Kill the Magic’.

At the end of the show Jimmy Fallon ran up and down the stands of the audience giving high fives left and right. He would eventually leave through his secret door by the couches and once again Seth Herzog was sent out to talk with the crowd as they are orderly sent out of the studio.
