FX has decided not to go forward with the How & Why pilot from Charlie Kaufman, while renewing Louie and Fargo

The show was set to be the Oscar winner's first return to television since two seasons of Ned & Stacey, which ended in 1997. The pilot is currently being shopped, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Netflix has already turned it down, but IFC is said to be interested.

Had the pilot been picked up, the show would star John Hawkes as Goodman Hesselman, who is able to explain the intricate workings of a nuclear reactor, but has little idea about the rest of the world. He loses his job as host of a TV show in favor of a younger face and moves elsewhere to try again.

Others in the cast of How & Why included Michael Cera, Sally Hawkins and Catherine Keener.

FX also announced that Louie and Fargo would unsurprisingly be returning for another season.

Fargo will return with a whole new cast for a 10-episode season from Noah Hawley, while Louis C.K.'s show's fifth season will only be seven episodes. Both shows were nominated for several Emmys, with Fargo picking up 18 and Louie five.
