FX announced that two of its most acclaimed shows, Fargo and Louie, will both be back for another year. However, both shows will be undergoing major changes.
Don’t expect Billy Bob Thornton to return as a chilling murder-for-hire in Fargo’s second season. Seeing as the first season of Noah Hawley’s translation of the Coen Brothers film for television was originally planned as a miniseries, it comes as no surprise that the new season will have an entirely new cast.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the show will again feature 10 episodes and Hawley will be showrunner again.
“Noah’s audacious, bordering on hubristic riff on my favorite Coen brothers film earned 18 Emmy nominations—the most for a single program in our history,” FX CEO John Landgraf said in a statement. “Fargo was nothing short of breathtaking and we look forward to the next installment.”
Louie, which is up for five Emmys this year, will be back for a fifth season. However, writer/director/star/editor Louis C.K. will only have to write seven episodes this time around.
“Louie’s fourth season was once again groundbreaking. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking — always thought provoking,” Landgraf said, notes TheWrap. “The show went to narrative and cinematic places no comedy has gone before and we look forward to seeing what Louis comes up with next.”
Calling Louie’s fourth season ‘heartbreaking’ is a bit of understatement. The season sparked more conversation on the web than any other sitcom, thanks to C.K.’s decision to touch on topics like body image and rape.
