Actor George Clooney has responded to Daily Mail tabloid claims that there has been a rift between him and his mother in law.

According to CNN, British tabloid Daily Mail released an article claiming Clooney’s fiancé Amal Alamuddin’s mother has issues with Clooney due to religious differences. Apparently, Daily Mail reported that Alamuddin’s mother was “telling half of Beirut” she was against the marriage of her daughter and the actor.

Via USA Today Clooney expressed his distaste of the article for reporting fictitious stories and exploiting religious differences. Clooney is often warding off false reports of his life in tabloids, but felt he had to respond to this blunder due to it regarding “larger issues.”

"The irresponsibility, in this day and age, to exploit religious differences where none exist, is at the very least negligent and more appropriately dangerous,” said Clooney. “We have family members all over the world, and the idea that someone would inflame any part of that world for the sole reason of selling papers should be criminal."

The Daily Mail did apologize for its false reporting by issuing a statement to Clooney and those involved.

"We accept Mr. Clooney's assurance that the story is inaccurate and we apologise to him, Miss Amal Alamuddin and her mother, Baria, for any distress caused."
The Daily Mail also removed the article from its website to avoid further damages.
