After missing the first day of training camp, Jamaal Charles and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed on a two-year extension that will make him the second-highest paid running back in the National Football League, behind only Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings.
Charles, who believed he had outplayed his current contract, was reportedly planning to hold out of training camp until a deal was struck.

Charles’ previous contract, that had two years remaining, had him slotted to make $3.9 million this year, while his new contract extension is worth $28 million.
Though signing running backs to long-term deals is always risky, this deal was a no brainer for Cheifs general manager John Dorsey. Charles has been a huge impact for the Kansas City offense that made the playoffs last season after winning their first nine games.
Charles, who at 27 in his prime, provided a league-high 35.3 percent of the Cheifs yards from scrimmage according to ABC. Charles also led the team in rushing and receiving yards, as well as led the league with 19 touchdowns in 2013.
