Yesterday former longtime New York Yankees manager Joe Torre gave his Hall of Fame speech. Even though he thanked a lot of people, he regrets not addressing George Steinbrenner enough.
Torre’s face after his speech told the whole story while he was holding his Hall of Fame plaque, proven by theNew York Daily News. He was not happy because he felt he had not given the man they called, “The Boss” the proper praise.
Since he was officially inducted yesterday, Torre stated, "I missed mentioning and thanking the most obvious guy in the world when you talk about the Yankees," the former manager said of the late owner. "It was so obvious that I was going to do it, I went right past it."
Despite the Steinbrenner family and Torre parting ways after the 2007 season was over, both sides did not know how to say goodbye, according to ESPN. Torre’s resume as a manager for the Bronx Bombers was incredible. He had 1,173 wins, and 767 losses in total.
Steinbrenner meant a lot to the New York Yankees because of his no-nonsense approach to the game and also his obsession with winning every single season. If the Yankees did not win the World Series, the season was looked at as a failure to Steinbrenner.
