As any real Jurassic Park geek knows, there’s a great picture of director Steven Spielberg sitting next to the sick Triceratops, smiling. The picture has been around for 21 years, since the film was made. However, it has taken on a life of its own, thanks to a comedian on Facebook.
Back on July 6, comedian Jay Branscomb posted the photo, writing, “Disgraceful photo of recreational hunter happily posing next to a Triceratops he just slaughtered. Please share so the world can name and shame this despicable man.” That was just a few days after the controversy over Kendall Jones exploded, as pictures of the 19-year-old smiling with dead African animals went viral.
Eventually, those photos were pulled from Facebook. Obviously, Branscomb was just making a joke about the situation. But, despite the fact that the Triceratops has been extinct for a longer period of time than humans have existed on earth, Facebook users began trashing Spielberg, unaware of that fact.
There are now over 6,000 comments on the post, over 10,000 likes and 33,000 shares. Many of the comments at this point are people wondering how anyone could think that Spielberg really killed a dinosaur. However, if you have the time and go back to earlier comments, you might find one like this:
“I never even knew Steven Spielberg was a big game hunter!!! I hope he uses the hide for shoes and belts..oh, and purses, too! And he better eat ALL the meat!!!! If people don't stop killing those things they may actually have to be placed on the Endangered Species list!!!!”
Anyway, if some people think Jurassic Park is real, they should just watch the movie again. Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) did figure out why the Triceratops was sick and it wasn’t dead.
